If you’re sending a child to college then an electronic book reader is an ideal gift for them to take along. Not only will it mean a lot less room in their dorm taken up by physical books, you can also ensure that they still see the light of day and can get outside in the fresh air and sunshine to study.

There is still a ways to go making this perfect for students; there are features that could be added to make electronic book readers replace traditional textbooks fairly easily. However it’s still a good way to read or carry their books. If they update to allow interactivity such as highlights and cut/paste to email then students will probably find there is no need for any other type of book in their study life. ‘

It’ll definitely assist their learning as they can still copy text by hand or onto a PC which means that they repeat the information and this aids learning. Hopefully Amazon will consider releasing an electronic book reader just like their current Kindle model but with added features specific to students. If they do this the Kindle will become an idea study tool and probably end up replacing the majority of college student’s textbooks.

These electronic book readers are headed in the right direction but there is still more to do to improve it for college students. Some may enjoy it regardless but it’s worth a conversation with your student before purchase.
