There are limited supplies of electronic book readers on the market today and most should be discounted immediately. The only two worth real consideration are the Kindle by Amazon and the PRS by Sony. Price points are almost the same so this is not really a consideration except to see what you actually get for your money.
They both offer a similar user experience. They look good and feel good to carry around and both offer fairly intuitive controls. The screen technology is also similar which means that both will create a feeling of reading a genuine hard copy book rather than a computer monitor, even though the screen is LCD.
The upside to the Sony model includes features the Kindle does not have. It’s interactive a little bit more than Kindle because it comes with a touch screen function that is quite intuitive and easy to get the hang of. With the advent of smart phones the younger generations will like this feature.
It is also lit from the front which means that it has an advantage of the backlit Kindle. One other feature that the Sony hasn’t got which is actually a good thing is that it has no DRM. Unfortunately the Sony model hasn’t been offered publicly as well as the Kindle.
The world knew about it long before it was available overseas – this has only just occurred. The Kindle has been in strong demand mostly because it’s been strongly advertised. Another key advantage of the Kindle is that it has many more books available for download and if you’re spending a lot of money on an electronic book reader you want to have access to a lot of books.
The newer Kindles offer easier download and also a lot more memory than Sony and this may win the race for a lot of users. However you need to weight up the positives and negatives yourself to decide which electronic book reader is right for you.
