Ebook readers occupy a large place in the marketplace today. The idea of storing hundreds and even thousands of books in a single electronic device appeals to many people. That would mean an end to endless piles for books that gather dust in your house.

There would not be a need to buy more book shelves. But best of all, you can take all of your books with you anywhere you go.
However, some of the ebook readers can be limited to a few basic functions. They will store books, magazines and newspapers but little else.

Maybe the netbook you own is nice for email checking, internet browsing or for typing quick documents. You may also be able to Instant Message and VOIP.

Netbooks of the day are equipped with hard drives that have large more than 150 GBs. These have more than adequate space to store many thousands of the ebooks. Luckily it is possible with a couple of tweaks to change your netbook into a wonderful ebook reader.

Your netbook will already open pdf ebooks. These books which are in a portable document format can be read with Adobe Acrobat reader or other similar readers. But some of the ebooks are saved to different formats other than the simple pdf format.

Some are saved in HTML type formats. Ebooks arriving from open-source directories such as Project Gutenberg afford you the option of using a HTML download format. This being the same language used to write web pages.

Other formats exist in various forms also. Some of them are distinct to their providers. Kindle books are specific to Amazon Kindle. Mobi Pocket books have their own format as well. Ebook readers will come with downloadable software for your computer. This will allow your computer to read the format of your netbook. Here is another option available for your netbook that is even better.

A program is available for download. It is called Calibre. This program is comprehensive management software for ebooks. With it you can import entire libraries from ebooks onto your computer. From there you can be at your leisure, conveniently browsing at will. Powerful searching options locate the exact book you are looking for right as it is needed.

Tagging support is one of Calibre’s greatest features. Tag any book you like. For example, the book Romeo and Juliet could be tagged as “romance”. A quick scan of the romance tag will bring it up along with all of the other titles with the same tag. Adding multiple tags is a strong way to organize your collection.

Calibre’s built in reader allows you to read your ebook directly from your computer. This is true for all formats they come in. Synchronization functions will enable you to load directly onto your computer all stand alone ebooks also. It will automatically reformat the ebooks to your computers configuration before sending them. This program is available for Windows, Linux netbooks and Mac.

With a managed ebook collection and an installed comprehensive reader there are a couple other things you can do also. You can adjust your screen orientation. It can be adjusted to read the longer screen axis and enable you to hold your notebook like a regular book. The brightness can be adjusted dimming the screen to read by without straining your eyes as on a bright screen.

Now you can enjoy your ebooks directly from your netbook and when you are finished reading you can check you email and chat with your friends. Oh yeah, don’t forget about surfing the net too!
