As a student in college I found that the newest gadgets are always talked about and there is nothing better than a new device than one that makes life simpler.
Finally, a way to carry ALL my books and not feel like I was toting a mountain! The new hand held e-Book readers really made a huge difference in my life! Not having to carry a ton of books to classes is definitely reason to jump for joy.
I did my research by shopping online stores and found that I just got more confused. There was so much information, I was a little overwhelmed. The variety of products available and which one I really needed was a bit beyond me.
The major differences were storage capacity, whether or not it was wireless, lifetime of the batteries, some had keypads, while others had a larger screen. The price ranges were pretty varied as well. I finally went to some forums and blogs and read reviews by people who had actually used the devices.
In the blogs and forums there was a common thread to the discussions and most of them pointed out the features that I was interested in. Here are some of the things that I learned that set the devices apart for me:
• Prices: these devices start at around two hundred dollars and go to about eight hundred and fifty dollars. The most expensive models were pretty, but I did not need all the fancy bells and whistles, so expensive did not necessarily mean better for me.
• Some of the e-Books have the feature that enables the user to peruse books, periodicals, newspapers and previews of books they may want to buy. Some devices would even let you use PDF files.
• A few of the devices allowed the use to change font, highlight, and do annotations. This was invaluable to me as a student! There is also a search feature available that allows the user to look up any words or phrases or even an exact quote. Paper books will not let me do that!
• The models that were wireless were the most attractive for me. I chose a Kindle and I am glad I did. Kindle is wireless and downloading books is a snap. I can be anywhere and don’t have to depend on wifi to use my e-Book reader from Kindle.
