I came across a book, titled Room by Emma Donoghue last weekend. It is one of the best novels I have read so far. I couldn’t keep it down even for once since I started it in the morning. I’m sure a lot of readers will get hooked from the first paragraph itself.

The story is about a boy named Jack and his mother. The book is aptly titled ‘Room’ as the story is about the mother and the son living in a room. The story is narrated by jack, the son and he tells their story according to his viewpoint. Since his birth Jack has known only his Ma and his Room.

He spends his time listening to stories told by his mum, and listening to songs sung by her and her Ma reading him stories from the five books they had for the thousandth time. They live in a small room measuring eleven by eleven foot for so many years now. Ma does her best to look after Jack and to keep him amused and entertained while also doing whatever she can to keep him protected. For Jack, life seems good enough, since he is blissfully ignorant of the world outside the Room.

His only physical activity was running around the bed and from the lamp to the wardrobe. Amazingly for Jack his days were filled with thousands of activities and he is not aware of his life in bondage.

Then Jack learns of life outside the room. Before he came to know about it, he felt safe and secure living there. But when he came to know that there was a whole world out there he became afraid and unsure of how he would cope with his life beyond the Room. Emma Donoghue has done an astounding job and stirred all kinds of emotions within me.

This book is a must read for everyone. I believe it will make a person more compassionate and Jack’s innocence will surely move everyone who reads this book.

I recently read the Room a novel written by Emma Donoghue, this is the first novel I have read written by her and I am sure that this will not be the last. I picked the novel just to pass my time while waiting for my friend but the opening paragraph itself got me glued to the novel till the end and lucky enough for me my friend did not show up.

There are so many subjects that we face as a reader in this novel. The irony of this is that, all these turbulence takes place within the confines of a small room. The story is based in a small room which is soundproofed by the captor. It is located on the backyard of the captor’s house.

The room was built with the intention of abducting people and keeping them in captivity there. The room had a bathroom, some cooking utensils and one television. Jack’s mother was first abducted and kept there in captivity. As time lapses, she gives birth to Jack and he grows up in that room oblivious of the world outside.

Even more shocking is that, Jack had never even seen daylight. He had never been outside the small room. The only thread linking him to the world outside was the television in the room. And the only idea he had about the world outside was through the stories told to him by his mother. One day finally, Jack and his mother escapes and they are shoved into the world.

Living in the real world turns out to be a nightmare for them.

One cannot help but be moved by the characters in this novel. You really have to admire the courage and compassion of the mother. She does an amazing job in bringing up Jack in the small room but trying her best to make him feel connected with the outside world. Everyone should read this book one day, it is a most humbling experience.

Uncubicled grips your full attention from the very moment you start reading it. The mystery starts from the very beginning and it is impossible to put it down. There are a lot of bends in the story and shocking exposures and also humor. But the haphazard timeline in the book is tiring at time and it is hard to keep up with it.

But as the story goes on the skips in the time and events are used to tell the stories behind the character.

For a while it is exciting and it heightens the excitement. But as we read through it turns from exciting to exasperating to utterly wearisome. It was tiring to be suddenly pulled away from the story and led into a different scenario. I also found it hard to keep track of the sequence of the story.

I admit that this was an interesting ploy but it was used excessively and as a reader I found it hard to stay focused. The ending was quite a disappointment as the plot is not resolved even after the epilogue. The book is loaded with action and always shifting its time and location. It grabs hold of your attention but you cannot figure out the storyline.

Due to its unresolved conclusion I feel like I am being duped into buying a sequel even though there is none as yet. Having said that, I will definitely buy it because, despite everything the different style of writing stands out from the ordinary.

One thing I believe that every reader must acknowledge is that the author has a really interesting concept and a way of writing. He passes of as an intelligent person to me with his unique way of writing. I find his non-conformist and unpredictable style like a breath of fresh air unlike the thousands of dreary writers that has flooded the world of publishing.

The novel broke written by Glen Beck to my utmost surprise is an entertaining as well as educative novel. This novel has all the aura and styles that he carries in all his other novels. He has brought out all the historical facts concerning to our economy in an interesting manner.

In the first part of the book, Beck gives out historical details, the progress and shifts of the governments, and discuss vividly about the monetary policy of our nation from then President Hoover to our present President Obama. He speaks lucidly about the economical recession of our country and how every right thinking citizen is wondering how all these had happened.

In the second part he cleverly gives out the details of crimes that are happening and that had happened in the past. What I understood is, he trying to express that the economic recession is happening likely because of all the crimes that are taking place around us. The debt of the nation has gone so high that even if the entire tax payer in America pays up their tax, the debt cannot be removed. In this book Beck lashes out to the politicians about their wrong doings and how their actions are affecting the country’s economy.

In the last part of the book Becks gives out plans and ideas on how we can come out of our economic decay. He calls out to every responsible citizen to contribute in the making of the nation’s economy. He talks about what role religion has to play, what type of government is needed to rebuilt our nation, and what can the family contribute in their on way.

Glen Beck has given out so much in his latest book Broke about politicians and economy in an explicit manner. There is no doubt that this book will attract lot of criticism but one can not deny the truth that Beck is trying to convey in this book.

Keith Richards of Rolling Stones talks to you in this memoir ‘Life’. It can be called as a tale of a legend who has lived life according to his ways and never regrets a moment of it. He has gained notoriety even shelling out his memories through this book yet he is nothing new to it.

If it is to be believed he was offered a seven million deal for this book and he has given the money worth to his publishers. No doubts it was not only for money that he shed out even scraps, but going through his memoirs, one get to learn how a fame and success especially in a rock and roll world can transform you into a devil may care persona.

In Life, Richard talks about his family, his passion for music, and most of all how his life rolled with the Rolling Stones. After reading the book you can say that his relationship with the Rolling Stones was tied up mainly with Mick Jagger, the vocalist of the band. Of course he details on how the band came into being with Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger and the rest but it was Mick for him. In Mick he found a soul ho was his equal on the stage they shared.

There were all the chilliness and scuffle out there with them both and we have heard it before. Yet Richard also lets us know that he and Mick needed each other whatsoever.

Being a member of the greatest rock legend one cannot be surprised by the messed up life he shared with the band. With drug diet, skull ringed finger, and the devil may care attitude you cannot missed out on his life in his memoir “Life”. And reading this memoir you can always remember the indisputable guitarist from the greatest rock band of all time.

A great mystery book indeed, by J.A. Konrath. It is exceedingly written with a powerful base with a woman detective named Jacqueline Daniels. It is a depiction of how a super detective got for herself a tough serial killer on her list and how she retorts when she finally comes under him.
I have never before read anything by J.A. Konrath but after this read I am definitely after his next book.

He perfectly blends the qualities and passion of lady detective, and how her bravery and toughness gets her by her career. Jacqueline is shown as a gritty detective who had a serial killer named Mr.K under her eyes. Yet he was able to slip from her hand just as she was going to catch him.

The story takes place in three differently lodged periods. It is shown in the present day of the period, then another three years back and then another twenty one years before the present day. All throughout the story, the author brings out the qualities of Jacqueline with the people and circumstances around her. We see her essence best when she is faced with two of her weird and strange co workers.

Also when she is held as a captive by Mr.K himself we see how she takes her imprisonment with the entire creepy images of her captivator last victims. She fights her fears and tries not to lose herself with the gripping fear of being a victim herself down in her dungeon.

I can say that it is very aptly written as any good mystery novel should be written and sounded. With every fold of the pages there is mystery and you are filled with suspense and terror. But in Jacqueline-Daniels-Mysteries you are catered with a doze of light moments with occasional humor and wit around the situations. I can definitely say that this book will be a favorite of every mystery book reader.

This is a book any avid readers of mystery, detective and crime novels will be hooked up to. This is Larsson’s second thriller to hit the stand and I am sure you can never missed out on how he had created a heroine in this book and sadly left behind his readers panting for more. Yes it is a sad fact that he died before he could complete his trilogy series.

The first book of the series is, “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” which was just breath taking and got good reviews from the readers around the world. In this second series, Lisbeth Salander the girl who was rebel to the edge was the prime suspect in a triple murder. But Kalle Blomkvist refuses to accept Salander’s involvement in the crime. The story revolves around the search for Salander, her hiding period and how she takes the accusation and goes on with her regular escapades.

Looking at Kalle, the only person through whom we are shown an image of Salander, we catch hold of their partnership around the story’s plot. Kalle is a journalist and he has not seen Salander for a long time after she did her disappearing act. But Kalle trust his instincts and believes that the recent triple murder is not the handiwork of Salander.

Salander is portrayed as an intelligent and vicious woman. She is seen a rebel with no cause by the society, but when we read on the book we get to learn of her past experiences and abuses as a child. Her escapades are wild and she finds relaxation in sex with both the sexes. With vivid memory and calculating mind nothing escapes her fixtures when she is out on a mission.

In this book she was held as a suspect in a major crime involving a major drug issue in Sweden. And to make it worse the police found her finger prints at the crime scene. You need to read the book for yourself if you enjoyed it till here.

This book presents Mitch Rapp’s beginnings. Mitch starts his adventure with CIA. He learns quickly the hazards and tricks of the job. His training grounds are Middle east, Europe and Virginia. As expected the story is full of action. A lot of drama is involved in the plot and the reader might be confused at times.

American Assassin begins as Irene Kennedy recruits Mitch. She brings Mitch into a program without the knowledge of Stan Hurley who is the training expert. He cannot stand the sight of Mitch and expects him to thrown out quickly from the training. Unfortunately for Stan, Mitch turns out to be the best among everyone.

In time Mitch proves that he is best suited for this type of job. He proves to all that he is a perfect candidate for the job. He is talented, he is humble enough to admit what he lacks and works towards improving himself upon that particular thing. In this book we get a very good grip on the characters of Irene Kennedy, Thomas Stansfield, Lewis and Stan Hurley.

From Mitch’s conversation with Lewis we get to discover more about his mental attitude.

Vince Flynn has done terrific job of enhancing his characters, making up the story and preparing the setting for the unexpected. The author has turned Mitch Rapp into a believable character. Mitch has been described as a vulnerable character who finally gets his act right at the right place. The thoughts and behaviours of the characters have been very nicely communicated to the reader.

As I read along I feel as if I know these characters in the story. Insider phrases like “snake eater” bring about a kind of raw military realism. It is a slang for Army Special Force. It simply makes the story very original. American Assassin is one of my best read books till date.

A male author writing about the retribution of a woman owing to her abuse is a phenomenal surprise. “The girl with the dragon tattoo” is a story of Lizbeth Salander who is in charge of her life and has tough consequences lined up for those who mistreated her.

Salander’s survival instincts are superb and her experiences with both good and bad people make this book a cocktail of varying emotions. Salander possesses the inner strength of a determined survivor. She will not hesitate to retribute bullies, predators and corrupt barons.

The book contains some chillingly horrific and dark scenes. It is an intense piece of work by Larsson. Shocking sexual abuse against women is one of the prime factors this book revolves around.

It also deals with racism and a complex web of real and imagined history of mid twentieth century is weaved together. It is a hard hitting book. The frail hearted should keep away.

The book also deals with corporate wrongdoing that threatens to collapse the stock markets. It conveys a distrust of officialdom to the extent of endorsing complete lawlessness.

The protagonist is a young woman who masters computer codes and has a whole lot of tattoos and body piercings and is afflicted with Asperser syndrome. Lisbeth Salander supports herself by doing investigations. She may look young but is possessed with a fierce strength of a survivor.

Human interactions are always problematic for her, more than they are worth for. It is also a story of an investigative officer who chooses a path of less resistance but whose humanity reaches out to many.
It is a challenging intellectual crime thriller in a world of its own. It has memorable characters who revel in financial and investigative details. All in all a story to share Larsson’s take against racist, fascist and violent means.
