Kindle Fire 7th Generation – Review

Kindle Fire 7th generation

Kindle Fire 7th generation has excellent value for the price and improvements over first generation Fire. Amazon Kindle Fire 7-inch Color Multi Touch Android Tablet, which I found it to be a very popular product on amazon, i decided to buy it and after using it i am posting my honest product review here.

Kindle Fire 7 Review

The new Kindle Fire is a 7 inch tablet that operates on Android v2.3 Gingerbread OS. It suports a TI OMAP 4430 chipset in order to provide top of the line display and graphics quality. It has a dual core 1.2GHz cortex-A9 processor which enables it to provide alluring performance. In addition, Kindle Fire 7th Generation has outstanding horsepower.

Design – Kindle Fire 7

This Fire is sleekly designed and fits easily into one hand when in portrait mode. It includes a seven inch IPS TFT touch screen. This tablet can display up to 16 million different color combinations, in addition it supports multi-touch.

Multimedia – Kindle Fire 7

This Fire is equipped with media players that support a wide range of media formats. This means that you will be able to play any media files without problems. Supported video formats include MP4 and VP8. Supported audio formats include MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG, and MIDI. The 3.5mm jack works with a vast assortment of earphones.

Wi-Fi and Connectivity – Kindle Fire 7

I have a standard method for testing new electronic devices. That is to compare how fast each one runs in a test along side one another, with a familiar device, performing this same test close to and far away from the router inside my home. For the comparison, I used the Kindle Fire 7″, LCD Display, Wi-Fi, and 8GB along side the original version, and my smart phone, each using only a cellular connection vs. wi-fi.

For my webpage test I visit the mobile web for Google, my Facebook page, and The Onion. For each of these sites I could see no difference in the loading times on any of the devices at the spot nearest to the router. I also didn’t see a difference at the spot farthest from my router. So for connectivity speed, I have to conclude that this Kindle Fire is no better or worse than other devices.

Music and Sound Playback

As with the older version, there are two speakers located in two discreet ports at the head of the device. In order to test this feature I listened to a rendition of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” turned up as loud as I could get it. I covered each speaker one at a time. The sound is supreme, true stereo. There isn’t any degradation of sound. There is a headphone jack at the foot of the device. This isn’t the most convenient placement in my opinion; however, it serves its purpose.

Video Playback and Screen Display

Some adjustments have been made in the resolution/display. Therefore I decided to compare the viewing display between this Fire and the original version. I did this by watching an episode of one my favorite old television shows, MacGyver, on each device. From what I saw, the picture on the new Fire is much better than on the original version. It appears much more clear and sharp.

Screen Layout and New Tabs

Along with the standard tabs for Books, Video, Newsstand, Music, Apps, Webs and Docs, Amazon has included a fresh look to the general display. Now, instead of five rows of five apps, it shows only four rows of four apps, featuring larger fonts and icons. In addition, new tabs titled, Games, Audio books, Offers and Shop has been added.

The tab for apps displays all apps on the device or in the cloud, the game tab, however, categorizes apps so that they are game specific. Also, there are many free games to find.

Email

Setting up email on this Fire is extremely easy. It took only a moment to set up my primary Google account. I do not have any problems sending and receiving emails on this device. For those among you who desire more than the standard email app, there is an app called Enhanced Email that Amazon offers for free.

Reading on the Kindle

Like the games, there are many free books available. I have located and loaded quite a few books, both for myself and my kids. It is very easy to read on this Kindle. If necessary, you can prop this device up so you can read and do other things at the same time. To turn the page, a light tap on the side is all that is needed. In addition, if you are unable to read while performing other tasks, there is a button you can click in order to have it read to you.

Kindle Fire 7th generation Important Features

The Kindle Fire 7″, LCD Display, Wi-Fi, 8GB provides up to nine hours of battery life. Of course the battery life varies depending on the settings you use. This device will completely charge within three hours if you use the Kindle Power Fast charging accessory. Without that, it still charges pretty quickly but takes a little longer. However, if you use your computer to charge this Kindle it will take about twelve hours. Therefore I recommend using either the Power Fast accessory or another USB power adapter not associated with your computer.

This Kindle also includes integrated support for Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, Yahoo and Hotmail, as well as many other sites. In addition, you get free unlimited cloud storage for all Amazon content.

Kindle Fire 7th generation Additional Thoughts

The Kindle Fire 7″, LCD Display, Wi-Fi, 8GB is extraordinary device that is well worth the price. It is a definite improvement over the original version. Of course it is very light weight and portable, making it a convenient toy or tool that you can take with you anywhere. Most importantly, it will give you all the capability of a tablet PC, without the heavy price tag.
