Kobo Aura vs Kindle Paperwhite review
The Paperwhite represents the Kindle brand just as good as the Oasis and the Voyage. After all, they use an identical software and possess the 300 ppi E-ink Carta display. Despite being launched more than three years ago, it can still hold a candle to newer models and other updated ereaders such as the Aura 2.
I will be presenting you the similarities and differences of the Aura 2 and the Paperwhite 3 based on their front screen, front light LED, price, system software, and hardware.
Looking to the Kindle Paperwhite vs Kobo Aura H2O design this two are very similar. The Kindle has a very smooth back with a power button on the side, a micro usb and a status indicator light. There are no buttons on the front. The Kindle has a very simplistic design overall. The Aura has a micro USB,a micro SD Cars slot for up to 32 Gb extra storage space, a reset button, a power button, status indicator light and a glow light button. Also the back is very artistic also.
Screen Resolution – Kobo Aura vs Kindle Paperwhite
For starters, the Aura H2O Edition 2 has a bigger screen size at 6.8 inches versus 6 inches of the third generation Paperwhite. Interestingly, these ereaders weigh about the same at over 200 grams.
While this screen size may be considered an obvious advantage for the Kobo ereader, there is a catch. With the header being present as well as the footer on all Kobo ebooks, the amount of text visible on the screen is about the same as the Paperwhite 3. It will only increase with the Kobo for sideloaded data or when using the mode for full screen.
As far as resolution and pixel density go, the Aura 2 has 1430 X 1080 pixels at 265 ppi. The Paperwhite on the other hand, has 1448 X 1072 pixels at 300 ppi. This slight difference produces a sharper visual, which makes for a slightly better reading experience.
Kobo device has a 6.8 inch screen so it’s significantly larger than the Paperwhite 6 inch screen. As for the resolution the Aura machine has a 1440 x 1080 (265 ppi).
Paperwhite has a 1448 × 1072 (300 ppi). However this resolution exists only on the newest Kindle Paperwhite 4 2018 ..
The Aura 2 features ComfortLight, which shifts front light colors. By default, it has a blue-white light that can be changed into orange-grey. This helps in minimizing eye strain.
A Paperwhite 3 built-in front light LED is fixed but comes out more even and brighter with its natural white tone. You can, however, still spot some shadows which are expected from the LED lighting.
Storage Space & Software – Kobo Aura vs Kindle Paperwhite
Storage space – As far as memory space goes the Kindle Papewhite has 8 Gb of internal memory whereas the Kobo device has 4 Gbs. Both can expand up to 32 Gb of storage space.
Software – Both devices have common software qualities in more ways than one. Both are customizable and intuitive with its features such as the search button, Wikipedia input, notes, among others.
The Aura 2 primarily uses its own Kobo store for loading books. In addition, its internal memory also allows more ebook formats, which include epub, mobi, and pdf from your PC hard drive. But it does not support ebooks sourced from other digital stores such as Barnes & Noble and Amazon.
The Paperwhite has tricks up its own sleeve. You can have a landscape view of your ebook, builder for vocabulary Wordwise, scanning of pages, etc. You can also share your insights with other bookworms through a social book community called Goodreads. The scroll and zoom functions are much more responsive when compared to the Kobo.
Both devices are Wifi enabled, although Kindle has a bit of an edge with is 3G option. However, the Aura 2 has twice the internal storage capacity of 8GB. The water resistant quality is a lot better with the Kobo which enables it to be submerged in 6 feet of water for about 60 minutes.
Bottom line conclusion
So the Kobo machine has a bigger screen, both have a similar storage space with an micro SD. Price-wise, the Kobo device is way more costly than the kindle machine.
